6 Powerful Self-Help Books That You May Need

Here are 6 books that were my guiding light during my darkest days. These books hold a special place in my heart, and I'm grateful for their presence when I needed them most. I hope you also find them helpful in your life.

No More Mr. Nice Guy by Dr. Robert A. Glover

Dr. Glover explores the lives of men who often put others' needs before their own. He offers a fresh perspective on breaking free from the 'Nice Guy' syndrome, revealing how to reclaim your desires, passions, and authenticity. Glover's insights empower men to build more fulfilling, assertive, and genuine lives. This book is a transformative guide to self-discovery and personal growth.

I think it helps to understand the causes and offers guidance to break free from these patterns. It emphasizes being authentic, setting boundaries, and pursuing personal goals.

While aimed at men, its insights can benefit anyone seeking to understand human behavior and improve relationships. I would recommend this book to men who struggle with seeking approval, avoiding conflict, and suppressing their needs in relationships.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes from the book:

“I define personal power as a state of mind in which a person is confident he can handle whatever may come. This kind of power not only successfully deals with problems, challenges, and adversity, it actually welcomes them, meets them head-on, and is thankful for them. Personal power isn’t the absence of fear. Even the most powerful people have fear. Personal power is the result of feeling fear, but not giving in to the fear.

- Dr. Robert A. Glover

No More Mr. Nice Guy is available in both Audible and Paperback.

The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck by Mark Manson

I couldn’t recommend No More Mr. Nice Guy without talking about The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*uck, which focuses on identifying and prioritizing the most important values and concerns in people’s lives rather than trying to please everyone or caring about everything equally.

It helps readers accept imperfections, and embrace life’s difficulties as opportunities for growth and learning. The book suggests taking responsibility for one’s own emotions and reactions, rather than blaming external circumstances.

Here are some quotes that highlight the core message of the book:

"The desire for a more positive experience is itself a negative experience. And, paradoxically, the acceptance of one’s negative experience is itself a positive experience."

"The key to a good life is not giving a f*ck about more; it’s giving a f*ck about less, giving a f*ck about only what is true and immediate and important."

"Who you are is defined by what you're willing to struggle for."

The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*uck is available in Audible and Paperback.

You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero

Discover a no-nonsense guide to unleashing your inner power and living an awesome life. Sincero's witty and candid style empowers you to break free from self-doubt, set goals, and turn your wildest dreams into reality.

A must-read for those seeking self-improvement and a hearty dose of motivation. Plus it has a great meditation guide by her, which could be the first meditation session ever for many people as it was mine.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is:

“All this is to say that it’s not your fault that you’re fucked up. It’s your fault if you stay fucked up, but the foundation of your fuckedupedness is something that’s been passed down through generations of your family, like a coat of arms or a killer cornbread recipe, or in my case, equating confrontation with heart failure.”

This awesome book is available on Audible and Paperback.

Nonviolent Communication by Marshall B. Rosenberg PhD

Rosenberg offers a transformative approach to compassionate communication. It guides readers to understand feelings and needs, fostering empathy and resolving conflicts with a focus on connection and understanding rather than judgment and blame.

This insightful book is a powerful tool for effective communication and building healthier, more harmonious relationships.

Doctor Rosenberg’s NonViolent Communication book is on Audible and Paperback.

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

Eckhart Tolle explores the profound journey of awakening to a heightened state of consciousness. Tolle illuminates the human ego's impact on our lives and offers a transformative path toward inner peace and enlightenment.

This insightful book encourages readers to transcend their egoic minds and embrace a new, awakened way of living. It's a powerful guide to finding purpose and presence in the present moment. This book broke my ego into pieces and made me cry out my old self… a lot.

I remember I almost assisted to one of his sharings at The Paramount in Seattle. The ticket was a pretty penny which I didn’t have but I realized that I had more than enough with this book that changed me deeply.

The Art of Mindful Living by Thích Nhất Hạnh

This one is actually an Audio CD or Audiobook in Audible. Recorded during an intimate family retreat.

It helped me gather control over my anxiety through the guided meditation, and identify my biggest mistakes during my relationship with my ex after we broke up, being too late of course.

I would recommend this book to anyone who’s seeking to keep a healthy relationship with close loved ones, and partners, or to anyone who needs to let go of the negative feelings lingering of someone who passed away.

If you’re interested in The Art of Mindful Living, check it out on Audible.

Thanks for reading and I hope you find these books helpful.

Hope you take good care of yourself!
